Pivot Back is a coding, nomad turned DJ. While traveling the world for the past 5 years, he realized that there’s one thing that continues to connect people from all different cultures, backgrounds, and languages…and it’s music. To be in a club smiling and dancing next to someone you can’t talk to, but sharing this moment and experience together is magical and sweaty.
Pivot Back fell in love with music in high school and growing up in LA he didn’t have a shortage of shows or inspiration, so he began making music as a hobby. But it wasn’t until 2020 that he realized his love for music was greater than his love for coding. And that’s when he did what any DJ aspiring millennial would do—signed up for a DJ course in Ibiza.
In Ibiza, he crafted his skill and gained even more inspiration, which led him to create his DJ sets on YouTube. Coffee Break is a weekly, chill set that kick-started his following. He has thousands of followers, from all over the world, who start their week with a Coffee Break. Next, he created Aperitif—a monthly “party” set that gets you going, whenever you need it.
When it comes to Pivot Back’s creative process, he likes to create music based on sounds he hears in the wild or create multiple small 8-bar loops every day and sees which one he would like to build a song off of. He always starts small and builds the music bit by bit, much like learning a new sport or going to the gym.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Above & Beyond, Chris Lake ,and Nora en pure. Pivot Back’s ultimate vision is to find a unique sound with synths but also with drums/percussions. He wants to create a mixture of Tech House, Trance, and Melodic House and Techno.
